Overview The BDR-XD05S is one of the world's smallest and lightest BD/DVD/CD portable burners supporting BDXL. The ultra-compact USB 3.0 drive is ideal for Mac users or for those who already have software. The BDR-XD05S can write to BDXL 1 discs, Blu-ray discs and is backwards compatible to support DVD and CD media. Not only is the BDR-XD05S one of the smallest and lightest Blu-ray drives in the market, but its also one of the fastest with speeds up to 6x 2 for BD-R and BD-R DL media. The BDR-XD05S also has unique features such as PowerRead™, Auto Quiet mode, and PureRead2+. PowerRead 3 can provide smoother movie playback when a disc has fingerprints or minor surface scratches.

Auto Quiet mode intelligently adjusts the disc rotation speed to reduce noise (useful while watching movies or listening to music), and PureRead 4 automatically adjusts the drive parameters to minimize sound glitches during music playback. Auto Quiet mode and PureRead can be configured as well as enabled and disabled with the Pioneer BDR-XD05S Drive Utility. The portable device, measuring only 5.2' (W) X 0.55' (H) X 5.2' (D) and weighing a mere 8.46 ounces, also has the ability to be powered directly via USB (no AC adaptor needed). In a Mac OS environment, Finder can be used to read and write to BDXL, Blu-ray, DVD and CD media, and DVD Player can play back DVD movies.

Blu-ray playback requires additional software (not included). Of course other Mac software that supports optical drives can access the BDR-XD05S also. Drive Features Store more data Up to 156% more data storage capacity than a 50GB Dual Layer Blu-ray Disc. The BDXL™ format supports BDXL Blu-ray media (including 128GB Quad Layer (QL) and 100GB Triple Layer (TL) Blu-ray Disc™). Faster burning 6x 2 writing on BD-R single-layer and dual-layer discs.

4x writing on BD-R triple-layer and quad layer discs. An eco-friendly drive. Smaller packaging - saves resources and fuel for transportation. Reduced power consumption on external USB drives which allows for eco-friendly USB bus-powered drives.

Smooth movie playback Scratches, fingerprints and other abnormalities on the surface of a disc can sometimes cause Blu-ray and DVD movie playback to stop. When a PowerRead enabled drive is not able to read through obstructed areas of a disc, it will attempt to quickly move forward to the next available data point, resulting in smoother Blu-ray and DVD movie playback 3. A smarter drive Pioneer drives with Auto Quiet mode, monitor how they are being used and will adjust their speed automatically – high speed for data transfer, and low speed for music or movie playback. A better music experience Scratches and fingerprints on your CDs can cause them to skip. A drive normally makes a calculated guess at the unreadable data and attempts to correct this to match the original music.

However this is not 100% accurate. PureRead, when enabled, makes the drive reread the obscured data to extract the original music as accurately as possible 4. Wide blank media support Pioneer strives to have best in class performance over a wide range of media – our drives achieve this for a large variety of BD and DVD media. Refer to the drive’s media support list for all supported media and the write speed that can be achieved. Specs.

Frequently Asked Questions for the BDR-XD05S 1. Are both USB connectors needed for operation? Answer: When using a USB 3.0 port, only the main connector is needed. The small cabled secondary port is not needed.

When using a USB 2.0 port, both connectors might be needed as some computers output less power than others through the USB ports. On some PCs, one USB cable is enough, but to be safe and to avoid write errors, connecting both USB cables is highly recommended. If using only one USB connector, the main USB connector must be used, not the secondary connector (short cable) that is attached to the main connector. How can I get my disc out of the drive when it’s not powered? Answer: There is a lever on the bottom of the drive. Moving the lever back will cause the cover to open even when there is no power applied to the drive. Is connection by USB 2.0 fast enough to watch Blu-ray titles?

Answer: To watch Blu-ray titles, you need to read the Blu-ray Disc at 1x. To watch Blu-ray 3D titles, you need to read the disc at 2x.

Connection by USB 2.0 can allow reading of Blu-ray Discs up to 6x, so USB 2.0 is more than enough in most operating environments. Of course with USB 3.0, its even more than enough. Note that in a Mac OS environment, Blu-ray playback requires additional software (not included). Can I see the files I burned to a BDXL disc on any Blu-ray drive? Answer: BDXL discs can only be read on BDXL drives.

Can I use the BDR-XD05S with other burning/playback/editing software? Answer: The BDR-XD05S will work with newer software in Mac OS X 10.10/10.9/10.8/10.7/10.6 and Windows 8, 7, Vista, or XP SP3 environments. However, as with all current Blu-ray drives, it will not work with playback software that does not support Bus Encryption.

Bus Encryption was implemented into playback software in 2011. Does the BDR-XD05S work in a Mac OS X environment? Answer: The drive can operate in a Mac OS X environment (Mac OS X 10.10/10.9/10.8/10.7/10.6). In a Mac OS environment, use Finder to read and write to Blu-ray, DVD and CD media. Use DVD Player to play back DVD movies. Blu-ray playback requires additional software (not included).

Can I use the drive in a vertical orientation? Answer: No, the drive should only be used in a horizontal (lying down) orientation.

How can I change the PureRead and Auto Quiet Mode settings? Answer: PureRead and Auto Quiet Mode can be configured as well as enabled and disabled with the Pioneer BDR-XD05S Drive Utility. This utility is available for download on this website. I started the Pioneer BDR-XD05S Drive Utility. Why are all the options grayed-out and it says “Target is not found”? Answer: Ensure that the drive is connected and recognized by the computer before starting the utility.

Ensure that the correct utility (BDR-XD05S) is used. Connect the drive to the computer and restart the BDR-XD05S utility. Can I connect the BDR-XD05S to a PC through a USB hub? Answer: If the USB hub is powered (AC adapter), the BDR-XD05S may work, however the drive’s read and write speed may be reduced. The BDR-XD05S will not work if the USB hub is not powered. Why can’t I play Blu-ray titles or high definition copy protected content, but I can play DVDs? Answer: From January 1, 2012, all playback software is required to disable analog outputs from the computer for high-definition copy protected content.

For such content, an HDCP display (monitor/TV) is required and it must be connected to the computer using a digital DVI (DVI-D), HDMI, or DisplayPort cable. The best way to know if a display supports HDCP is if it has HDMI inputs. The next best way is to look at the display's user manual. When playing non-copy-protected high definition video (such as home videos), or copy protected DVDs, the computer’s analog outputs are enabled and non-HDCP display systems will work. Note: This limitation is not applicable to Macbook/iMacs/Notebook computers with built-in displays, but only when using external monitors.

Error 05 on Canon MP250 Pixma Printers Fix Error messages, such as E04, E05, E14 and E15, are commonplace for Cannon MP250 Pixma printers. You turn your Cannon MP250 printer and attempt to print something, but an error message pops-up.

It usually reads something along the lines of “ The FINE cartridge cannot be recognized”. This happens when your Canon is unable to recognize one or more cartridges. It is also possible, that the messages are being displayed due to the use of a refilled ink cartridges, that do not have the Canon “ FINE” branding.

Other possible reasons include not using the printer for a long time, improperly installing the cartridge and more. So what do you do? Some people suggest simply restarting your printing device. Indeed, in some cases this will help solve the problem, but in most cases you won’t be able to fix this error by a simple restart. However, there’s no need to worry, since the problem is probably caused by stains or dust over the contacts on the front of the ink cartridge, so the cartridge cannot be recognized by the printer. Fixing this is quite easy, you just need to go through the following steps: 1. Firstly, you will need to remove the cartridge in question from the printer.

If you are not sure which one is causing the problem, remove all of them. Next, you will have to switch your printer off. Use the buttons on the printer itself.

Do not unplug the printer from the power supply! Now, just in case, check the label of the cartridge, so as to be sure that the correct cartridge has been installed for your Canon printer. If there is a mismatch find how that happened and where is the original cartridge. Having taken the cartridge out, find some kind of clear soft tissue and use it to clean any dust and/or stains from the contact points.

Brd-05-e15

IMPORTANT – do not use fibrous tissues – some of their fibers may remain on the contacts, thus further preventing the device from recognizing the cartridge. Other then that simply make sure, that nothing remains on the contacts – dust, dirt, human sweat etc. They need to be perfectly clean for best performance of your Canon.

Now, that you have cleaned the cartridge contacts, turn the printer back on and after that put back in the ink cartridge. Make sure that you’ve returned the different color cartridges (if you took out more then one) to their respective places. If the problem really came form any stains or dust over the contacts, following these steps should have been enough to fix the recurring error. There are, however, other possible reasons for these messages to be displayed, so you may not have been able to fix. If “ The FINE cartridge cannot be recognized” message keeps popping-up, even after you’ve cleaned the cartridge’s contacts, there’s high chance, that the cartridge itself has been damaged or was defective in the first place. In this case, there’s nothing much that can be done, apart from simply buying a new one. Should you buy a new cartridge, it is advisable to get it from another party or at least another batch, in order to avoid landing another defective or damaged one.

For

But before you consider buying a new cartridge, make sure that you’ve also cleaned the corresponding contacts of the printer itself, since stains and/or dust on them (transferred by the cartridge itself) may also be the reason for the device failing to recognize the cartridge. The procedure is basically the same – once you take out the ink cartridges you will be able to access the contacts inside the printer and clean them.

If you decide to clean the contacts please unplug the device from its socket! Keep in mind, that on some models the contacts may be pointed, so be careful not to leave any pieces of tissue on them.

If this doesn’t help, then the problem may indeed be in the cartridge itself and you will be left with no other option, but to get a new one. This method should work for most Canon Pixma printers, where the issue has to do with stains or dust on the contacts between the cartridge and the printer. Let us know in the comment section below whether we’ve helped you solve your problem.
